Does my child qualify for the Mentoring Program?
- Children between the ages of 4-18 years
- Has a parent who is (or who has been) incarcerated (Note: This is NOT a requirement for The Alpine County Mentor Program.)
- Willing to build a relationship with a mentor
How will this help my child?
Studies show that children in mentoring programs feel better about themselves, do a better job at resisting peer pressure, and earn better grades in school.
Who are the mentors and where do they come from?
Mentors are caring adults who live in your child’s area. They make a promise to meet with your child at least an hour per week for a year. The mentors are screened and given background and fingerprint checks, and receive ongoing training and support.
What would a mentor do with my child?
Mentor-mentee activities may include going to the movies, playgrounds and parks, phone calls, playing basketball, taking up a new hobby and trips to coffee shops. It’s all about fun and mentors and mentees are matched up based on some of their common interests!
