How You Can Help

Giving Opportunities

The are many good reasons to give a charitable gift to Tahoe Youth & Family Services, and many ways of giving that can help.

Tahoe Youth & Family Services programs:

  • Provide counseling to youth and families in the South Lake Tahoe community
  • Provide mentoring relationships for children with an incarcerated parent
  • Provide a Safe Place for youth who are abused, neglected, runaway, exploited and need a safe haven.
  • Focus on developing character and competence, building a community that takes care of its children.

In Kind Gifts

Donations of office supplies, furniture and other items are always accepted. Gift certificates to the movies, restaurants, clothing and basin need items, bookstores, office supply stores, and grocery stores are a great way of donating to TYFS and the children we serve. Or you may underwrite advertising for TYFS to help stretch our budget and get the word out about our programs and services.

Manure Monopoly

Buy your tickets to the greatest game in Tahoe. If the Borgess carriage horse poops on your purchased square you win! Look for the event in August and ticket sales all summer 2007.

Mentor a Child

Spend one hour a week with a child whose parent in incarcerated. Both of you will earn a lifetime of memories and wisdom.

Become a Safe Place

Safe PlaceVolunteer your business or organization to be a part of Project Safe Place. Project Safe Place is a program designed to provide access to immediate help and safety to young people at risk of abuse, neglect or serious family problems. Businesses and community buildings are designated as Safe Place sites and prominently display a distinctive yellow and black Safe Place logo. Any youth can walk into a Safe Place and let an employee know that they need help. They are quickly connected with Tahoe Youth & Family Services, who can provide the help they need.

Direct Mail Campaign

TYFS mails a letter to our supporters a few times a year offering a variety of ways to donate in support of TYFS programs and services.

Contributions in Memory or in Honor

Contributions to TYFS are a great way to honor someone special, celebrate an occasion, or memorialize a loved one. Gifts can be dedicated to a specific purpose by the donor. Prompt personal letters of acknowledgement are sent from TYFS for these (and all) gifts.

Gifts of Stock

Charitable contributions to RYFS are tax-deductible. There is an additional benefit to giving appreciated stock. If you hold marketable securities which would bring a long-term capital gain if sold, their outright benefit to TYFS could mean significant tax savings as you are not required to pay capital gains on the appreciation. Thus the value of your gift is greater than the actual cost to you as a donor.

Capital Gifts

TYFS is currently seeking to purchase a building to provide for the sustainability of the organization. In addition, TYFS would like to provide an 8 bed shelter to youth in our community who are in crisis. If you have a building you would like to donate or renovation services, please contact Alissa Nourse, Executive Director.

Matching Gifts

A number of organizations participate in charitable matching gift programs. If your company provides this opportunity to double or even triple your gift, include a matching gift form from your personnel office with your gift to TYFS.

Planned Gifts; Bequests; Deferred Giving

This is a long term method of supporting TYFS in which a gift’s use by TYFS is postponed. TYFS can be designated in your will and estate planning.
